“Out-Talk Humanity?” Sam Altman’s Big Bet on AI Conversations, Customization, and Compute 

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman says the trajectory for ChatGPT is so steep that, if current growth holds, it could soon host more daily conversations than all humans combined—and he’s preparing to spend trillions on infrastructure to meet that demand. The remarks came at a press dinner in San Francisco, where Altman also acknowledged missteps in the GPT-5 launch and promised deeper customization so ChatGPT can adapt to wildly different user needs.

GPT-5 arrived with speed and reliability gains, but many users felt the model sounded colder and less supportive than GPT-4o—especially in creative tasks.
